As a Leaps and
Bounds franchisee you will provide physical activity for pre-school
children. With the training and on going support from the Leaps and Bounds team
you will give children the chance to enjoy the benefits of physical
play in their own nursery setting. It complements children's existing
nursery curriculum, and gives parents ideas on play-based activities
they can share with children at home as well.

The Concept...
The
30-minute sessions are split into two age groups, ( 2 - 3 years, and 3
- school age) and take place at pre-school settings, either indoors or
out. With each session including no more than 10 - 12 children there is
lots of opportunity for individual encouragement and attention. Each physical play activity is linked to a learning objective and is progressive in
the sense that it leads on to the next activity in a way which is
appropriate to your child's age and stage. The programme has been
designed to underpin the framework of the Early Years Foundation Stage,
so parents can be sure that the activities are in line with national
curriculum objectives.
Award Winning...
The
Leaps and Bounds programme has just been awarded a prestigious Kitemark
by the Professional Development Board for Physical Education (PDB). Movement is Important for Children... Leaps and Bounds consultant is Patricia Maude MBE* lecturer in physical education at Homerton College, University of Cambridge and author of Physical Children, Active Teaching (2001): "Movement
play is crucial to motor development. For young children, the most
important medium for movement is Play. Leaps and Bounds provides a
structured framework for play, with progressions built into each
activity." says Patricia. Sally Gunnell on Leaps and Bounds... An avid supporter of the programme is Olympic Gold medallist turned broadcaster Sally Gunnell OBE:
"It
is great to see how involved children are in the activities and how
much fun they're having. We know if children begin to enjoy physical
activity from an early age, they will keep it up in later life." she says. "With
current lifestyles, and the growing problem of child obesity, childcare
providers and parents are aware of the importance of getting children
to start on a healthy lifestyle from an early age. The more they enjoy
physical activity, the more they are likely to keep it up through their
adult lives." she adds. |
